Our mission
Free-to-play is not a genre. It is a door — and what waits behind it can be a generous creative world, an exhausting grind, or something in between. We review that door and the experience beyond it.
Coverage is written in Canadian English and checks Canadian access. We favour games with distinctive mechanics, active online communities and a meaningful free path. A famous licence is not enough.
How the score works
The score is an editorial assessment out of 10, weighted across five areas:
| Area | What we examine | Weight |
|---|---|---|
| Play | Controls, feedback, tactical or creative depth | 30% |
| Free-path fairness | Access, grind, competitive advantages, purchase pressure | 25% |
| Craft | Art, sound, world-building and identity | 20% |
| Community | Matchmaking, moderation, population and social tools | 15% |
| Onboarding | Clarity, accessibility and first-session quality | 10% |
Scores compare the current free experience, not a game's historical peak or total content after buying every expansion.
Our free-play standard
A listed game must provide a real playable experience without an initial purchase. We label important boundaries: a free multiplayer mode with paid campaign, a free base game with expansions, or a rotating character roster. Optional purchases are not treated as forbidden, but hidden costs, sold power and manipulative pressure lower the score.
A free starting point means you can begin and continue the identified experience without a game purchase. Internet access, compatible hardware and a platform account may still be required.
Updates and corrections
Live games change quickly. We prefer primary sources such as official game sites, developer posts and platform listings. If an update changes access or a factual error is found, we correct the page and reassess its score when the change materially affects new players.

Independence and disclosures
Publishers cannot purchase a rating or ranking. Solvarielle is not affiliated with the reviewed publishers. Game names, logos and promotional artwork belong to their respective owners and appear for editorial identification and criticism.
This version of the site does not contain paid placements or affiliate tracking links. If commercial relationships are introduced later, affected pages will carry a clear, nearby disclosure and the relationship will not guarantee a positive score.
